                                   Recommended

The following programs are recommended by ISD and are fully supported by the ISD Service Desk.

These programs give you Exchange Mode. Exchange Mode provides full functionality of E-mail, Calendar and Contacts:

  • Enables you to synchronise E-mail, Calendar and Contacts with your iPhone, iPad, Windows Mobile & Android-based phone.
  • If you use MAPI with Outlook you will also benefit from having a locally cached copy of your emails and Calendar in the event of a network failure. This will allow you to continue working until network connectivity is resumed
  • Provides the facility to share Mailboxes, Tasks, Contacts & Calendars.
  • Advanced email options such as: recall sent messages, out-of-office, deferred sent messages, send a copy of an email as an attachment and more...

The following (not fully supported) programs can only be used via IMAP or POP (not Exchange Mode).

Please be aware:

IMAP:

  • Enables you to check ONLY E-Mail but a copy of your data is left on the IMAP server allowing the same account to be accessed\administered from multiple computers.
  • Calendar access will need to be via the Outlook Web App (OWA)

POP:

  • Downloads all your emails onto your computer, therefore should your computer experience a fault, you are at risk of losing all your emails.
  • There is NO calendar/mailbox/contacts sharing functionality.
  • You will only be able to access your E-Mail from one PC as the data is stored locally.  If you have POP connections to the same account but on different PC's this will result in data being held separately and therefore now centralised.
