Virtual Learning Environments - Moodle
A Virtual
Learning Environment (VLE) provides a range of online tools to support learning and teaching. It may be used at a basic level to supplement taught courses, usually by providing essential information and materials; it may also be integrated more fully with face-to-face teaching, becoming an essential component of the course.
UCL uses Moodle
as its institutional Virtual Learning Environment (Moodle replaced WebCT in 2007 - find out about the WebCT migration here). Moodle has a wide range of tools to support learning and teaching, including tools to:
- manage resources (documents, lessons, glossary)
- support communication (forums, chat, blog, wiki)
- enable groupwork (wiki, database, forums, glossary)
- support assessment (quizzes, assignments, Turnitin integration, gradebook)
- manage administration (groups, calendar, usage reports, gradebook, questionnaire)
