Computers at UCL

Windows systems

ISD provides Windows-based desktop services for staff & students at UCL. WTS (Windows Terminal Service) is available to anyone with a UCL userid & password and gives access to a large range of software as well as your personal area of the filestore.

ADS (Admin Desktop Service) is only available to staff in the Corporate Support Service divisions and has to be registered for separately.

Equipment for both WTS & ADS can be ordered, installed and supported by ISD on your behalf.

Using your own computer

You can use your own computer to access our services, including the Windows Terminal Service (WTS) from anywhere in the world providing you have an internet connection.

Departmental IT equipment

Many departments manage their own machines and provide specific, additional facilities for their own staff & students, some of which may interface with centrally-provided services. You will need to ask your department about the setup & use of these.

Student computer workrooms

There are about 50 open-access computer workrooms running centrally managed Windows desktops around campus and on some outlying sites. These can be booked for classes and are otherwise used by students on a drop-in basis.
