Unsupported multi-function devices and printers.

There are two types of unsupported print service, neither of which are supported by ISD.

1. Unmanaged Print - UCL's tendered agreement with Xerox

Note: this service is no longer available to new customers.  This information is for existing customers only.

UCL is contracted with Xerox (UK) Ltd for the supply of high-volume printers and copiers (MFDs).

Xerox supply MFD’s and consumables with a lower level of support and maintenance e.g. next day call out. Whilst ISD oversee the contract and measure service levels, they are not involved in any day to day activities or direct support or management of the devices.  Support/fault calls are made to Xerox and all queries/faults must be resolved directly between the department and Xerox. All invoices are paid by the department directly and they are responsible for the lease costs and click charges (which are inclusive of consumables and maintenance). The service has push printing only.

By procuring your departments printer in this way you will not receive the benefits of ISDs fully managed printing solution; print@UCL.  This service includes:

•    Gathering print requirements.
•    Printer deployment.
•    Printer support.
•    Provision of paper and consumables.

Please note that Devices obtained directly with Xerox are not part of the managed print@UCL service and will not be centrally supported by ISD. In this case ISD will not provide:
•    Printer deployment
•    Printer support including maintenance calls
•    Provision of papers and consumables

Managing services from Xerox will be a local engagement.

We recommend that any device orders to Xerox should be on a lease basis. This will give the possibility for the device to move on to the print@UCL service at a future date if desired.

2. Off-Contract Print (any other printing service not listed above is considered “off contract”)

Departments have made their own arrangements with suppliers for the supply of devices and consumables and support. This may include leased or purchased outright devices (printers and MFD’s), with consumables included in the click charge or consumables sourced from a range of other suppliers.  There are many suppliers and various supplier based terms apply which have not been vetted or checked by UCL. Costs are varied (typically whole life costs are double the cost of the managed service).   Service levels are not always agreed or known.  There may or may not be support and maintenance from suppliers.  There is no ISD support for these devices.  All invoices are paid by the department directly and they are responsible for all costs. The service has push printing only.  None of the devices can be converted to the managed print service.
