Remote working: Preparation
IT for SLMS strongly advises that whichever service(s) you choose to use, you try them all out at home at least 4 weeks before you intend to work remotely, one week before as a minimum. This will allow time for any issues to be resolved. If you have any problems connecting, please contact your local IT for SLMS Support.
Prerequisites for remote working
You will need:
- A working broadband connection
A suitable computer
- Able to run required software (Windows 7 recommended; Mac OSX 10.6-10.8)
- Is running up-to-date anti-virus software - Free anti-virus software - Sophos or FSecure - can be downloaded and installed onto home machines.
- Has all security updates
To know your UCL computer userID and password
UCL licensed software
UCL staff who need to use Microsoft Office 2010/2011 or who need to update their operating system to Windows 7, can purchase a copy on CD from from the UCL shop for £10 (one product per person) to install on a single home computer.
You will need to visit the UCL shop in person to obtain the CD, it cannot be purchased online.
