Medical Photography and videography

Medical Illustration Services offer a walk in service for patients requiring routine clinical photography/videography. No booking is needed. If dressings need to be removed, please arrange for these to be done prior to photography.

Where possible, the work is undertaken by male and female medical photographers, however if a same sex photographer is unavailable then an appointment can be made. All patients must have a clinical request/consent form, specifying patient details, diagnosis, area to be photographed and intended use of the images: Please ensure the form is signed by both the patient/parent and the clinician.

For photography on the wards, in clinics or operating theatres, or for any specialised /non-routine requests please telephone to arrange a time.

Ophthalmic photography Patients for ophthalmic photography should have their pupils dilated prior to their appointment. GOSH patients can attend without appointment for digital retinal and slit-lamp photography. Fluorescein angiograms require prior arrangement. External photography or video of the eyes and face, including nine positions of gaze, is best carried out in our studio, but we can also come to wards and other departments.
Private patients All private patients of the Trust must be registered with a private patient number before attending photography. Trust consultants may also send their own private patients by arrangement for clinical recordings, giving a private practice invoice address.
Clinical Access to images All our clinical images are stored on a secure server and can be viewed on computers around the Trust site. To be able to see the patient images you will need to access our WABA clinical images database. Access is restricted to authorised users only. To gain authorisation, contact our reception for a user name and password.
Patients’ access to photographs Clinical photographs and video form part of patient’s medical records, therefore they have the right to request a copy made during their care. If a patient/parents request copies they will be asked to sign a form and charged a small fee towards the print or CD cost.
Clinical Trials We can develop or follow strict photography protocols in accordance with your requirements for clinical and pharmaceutical trails. Please ring to arrange an appointment if you require this service.
Medico legal / Personal injury photography and video Medico-legal photographs and video provide an invaluable resource for displaying the severity of injury and degree of suffering a client has to endure after having had a personal injury or as a result of malpractice. We offer a confidential, professional service and produce high quality, accurate, objective records of injuries, deformities and functional disabilities.
