Java Upgrade - Monday 8th April

5 March 2013

UCL Administrative Systems are mainly available via the web using an internet browser. Many of the commonly used systems require the use of Java via a browser plug-in in order to run. This is sometimes referred to as the Java Runtime Edition (JRE).

ISD currently promote the use of JRE version 6 which works with all our systems. On 8 April 2013 we will start to promote the use of JRE version 7. This will help keep our technologies up to date and will help improve UCL's information security.

No action is required on Monday 8 April 2013. However, after this date you may wish to use the ISD pages to upgrade to JRE 7 if you do not need to run the earlier version. Initially, users of EDRM and FIS will need to continue to use JRE 6 and it is possible you may use applications not supported by ISD that need JRE version 6.
