Silva CMS: Iris data

You can pull in data from the IRIS database at UCL directly into Silva.
You can choose to have individual, group or departmental data pulled in.

Be aware that when people search for your profile in Google, the beginning of your profile appears in Google:

so it's important it's up-to-date!

This guide is aimed at...

Before you start...

You will need to have Chief Editor, Editor or Author access in Silva;
You will need to have attended Silva training.

  1. Avoid using Internet Explorer when editing;
  2. Log on to the relevant website by adding /edit at the end of the web address or clicking on the small cross at the bottom of the page.

Instructions


Reseacher's profile

  1. Create a web page into which you'd like to display the IRIS: Researcher Profile;
  2. Remove the title as the Profile will contain the title - see example in demo above;
  3. Open the web page and place the cursor where you wish to display the profile;
  4. Select IRIS: Researcher Profile from the external sources and click add external source;
  5. Enter the UPI of the researcher you wish to display - see number 6
  6. You find the UPI in IRIS by looking up the person in question - their UPI will appear at the end of the URL for their page.
  7. Check the appropriate boxes to modify the output.
  8. Click add external source again to save your preferences.
  9. Save and Publish your web page and the profile should now display in the required location.


 Group profile

  1. Create a web page into which you'd like to display an IRIS: Research Group;
  2. Open the web page and place the cursor where you wish to display the list;
  3. Select IRIS: Research Group from the external sources and click add external source;
  4. Enter the Group ID of the research group you wish to display - see 5 below;
  5. You find the ID by looking up the relevant research group in IRIS;
  6. Enter a space separated list of occupation codes - this list controls which researchers to show on a department list, only those listed will be displayed. Leave blank to show all researchers;
  7. Check the box to Hide Group Info if you only want to display a list of researchers with no additional information;
  8. Enter a list of letters into the Researchers List Tabs box. This letter list is used to split long lists of researchers into tabs based on these letters. Letters determine end of range of tab i.e. 'LT' gives tabs A-L, M-T, U-Z. Leave blank for a non-tabbed list;
  9. Check the appropriate boxes to modify the output. These check boxes only relate to the output of the researcher profiles;
  10. Click add external source again to save your preferences;
  11. Save and Publish your web page and the profile should now display in the required location.


 Departmental profile

NB You can also add the relevant number for any of the existing Research Themes - see 5 below.

  1. Create a web page into which you'd like to display an IRIS: Department list;
  2. Open the web page and place the cursor where you wish to display the list;
  3. Select IRIS: Department from the external sources and click add external source;
  4. Enter the Department ID of the department you wish to display - see 5 below
  5. You find the ID in IRIS - look up the department first, the ID appears in the URL of the department in question;
  6. Enter a space separated list of occupation codes - this list controls which researchers to show on a department list, only those listed will be displayed. Leave blank to show all researchers!
  7. Enter a list of letters into the 'Researchers List Tabs' box.
