Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use the training resources to study on my own?
Yes, most of the resources are available for self-study. Some are associated with a course or programme but they can still be used to study on your own if you wish. Courses and materials marked as 'self-paced' are specifically offered for self-study. As well as these downloadable materials in Word or PDF format we also have self-paced courses, video tutorials and interactive online learning available.
What range of applications do you cover?
We cover a wide range of desktop applications, data analysis software, graphics packages and some more technical IT areas such as programming and Unix. Our video tutorials cover and even wider range. We have interactive online learning for Microsoft Windows, Office and Internet Explorer.
Who can use the resources?
Many of our resources are available to anyone to use under the Creative Commons License. Our resources that are password-protected are available to all UCL staff and students but should not be distributed to anyone outside of UCL and may not be modified. They are the copyright property of the external provider from which we purchase them.
Who can attend courses?
We have a staff and a student training programme. The staff programme is available to all UCL staff and some courses are also available to postgraduate if a similar provision is not available through the student programme. Student courses are either available to all students or are marked as 'PG only' if only postgraduates can attend.
How do I book courses?
Courses that take place in a classroom setting are marked as 'trainer-led'. To book these, click on the 'Staff Training' or 'Student Training' links at the bottom of the course page. There is also a link on the left-hand side of every page that takes you to the Staff Training and Student Training home pages. Note that while all our courses are free, a cancellation fee applies to staff courses. Please see our Staff Training FAQs for details.
