Adjusting your screen within Windows XP

Change the icon size

Place your cursor on a blank area of your computer desktop and click the right mouse button. A menu list will appear. Click on ‘Properties’ and a box will appear. Select the ‘Effects’ tab and click on the ‘Use large icons’ box. Click the ‘Apply’ then ‘Ok’ box and your icons will now be larger. If you wish to change back just go through this process and untick the ‘Use large icons’ box.

Colour contrast

Place your cursor on a blank area of your computer desktop and click the right mouse button. A menu list will appear. Click on ‘Properties’ and a box will appear. Select the ‘Appearance’ tab and use the dropdown menus,‘Scheme’ and ‘Item’ to select the colour schemes you prefer. Click the ‘Apply,’ then ‘Ok’ box, and your new colour settings will appear. If you wish to modify this again, just go through this process and change the ‘Scheme’ and ‘Item’ to your new preference.

Another option for changing colour contrasts is to go to the ‘Start’ button in the bottom left corner of your screen and click. From there select ‘Control Panel’, and then when the box opens select ‘Accessibility Options’ and then the ‘Display’ tab.

Click the ‘Settings’ button and then make your colour selections. *Remember to tick the ‘Use High Contrast’ box.

Go to the ‘Start’ button in the bottom left corner of your screen and click. From there select ‘Control Panel’, and then when the box opens select ‘Keyboard’. On the box that appears select the ‘Speed’ tab. From there you can pull the marker left or right to adjust the speed of your cursor blink rate.

Magnifier

Go to the ‘Start’ button in the bottom left corner of your screen and click. From there select ‘Programs’, ‘Accessories’, ‘Accessibility’, and finally ‘Magnifier’. This will then give you the following option box, and a magnified display area.
