Royal Free Haemophilia Cohort
Caroline Sabin, Andrew Phillips
Between 1979 and 1985, 111 individuals with haemophilia at the Royal Free Hospital became infected with HIV. These individuals have now been followed for up to 25 years after infection. This cohort was one of the first cohorts to describe the natural history of HIV infection and information from the cohort has instrumental in identifying co-factors and prognostic markers for HIV disease progression. The study was initiated by Professor Christine Lee in the Royal Free Hospital Haemophilia Centre and all data collection and analyses continue to be co-ordinated through the unit.
