This presentation by PhD student Katharina Kieslich (SPP) aims to provide an overview of a policy instrument that has become increasingly popular with health care policy-makers worldwide, namely health technology assessment (HTA). A short introduction to the processes and forms of HTAs will be followed by a discussion on whether or not HTA can provide a remedy for some of the challenges facing the majority of health care systems.

In cooperation with the UK Houses of Parliament Outreach Service, 20 students will have the opportunity to receive a training session in the official Committee Rooms of the Palace of Westminster on the work of the Parliament and to join a parliamentary debate in the House of Commons afterwards.

On Wednesday, February 1, 2012 IPAS Academic Events hosted a lecture on "Britain and the European Union" by Dr. Michael Shackleton, former head of the European Parliament Information Office in the UK.

On Wednesday, February 1, 2012 IPAS Academic Events will be hosting a lecture on "Britain and the European Union" by Dr. Michael Shackleton, former head of the European Parliament Information Office in the UK. Having worked in the EU for over 30 years, Dr. Shackleton has published widely about the European institutions as well as other Community topics. In addition, he was responsible for the creation of the European Parliament web TV channel, known as europarlTV, which was launched in 2008.

To kick off the IPAS Academic Events series, we will be showing the movie "THE END OF POVERTY?", a documentary addressing the question why there is still so much poverty in a world of growing wealth, directed by award-winning director Philippe Diaz. Please come along and join us for the screening (and a subsequent debate) this Friday, January 27, at 3pm in the SPP Council Room. Snacks will be available for a small donation (a part of which will go to our charity project JAAGO).

It's the season of a lit up Oxford street, advent calendars, mince pies, and cheesy holiday music. Since most of us are going home or adventuring during the holidays, we figured we'd throw a bash to celebrate Christmas and the end of our first term together at the Lexington!

The International & Public Affairs Society is proud to announce the inaugural session of the "Tea with the Ambassador" series. Designed to allow students the opportunity to sit down and discuss important issues with diplomats, the sessions will be strictly size-limited. Our first guest will be His Excellency Eduardo Medina Mora, Mexican Ambassador to the United Kingdom. The talk will take place on Friday, 25 February at 10am, and the topic will be "Security, Migration, and the Justice System in Mexico". In order to keep the sessions small, personal, and focussed, numbers will be capped.

Valentine's/Anti-Valentine's Day Bash

On Tuesday 8th February, we've booked two stables at Proud Camden for a Valentine's/Anti-Valentine's Day Bash. Come celebrate before reading week with IPAS! We have the stables starting at 7pm and it's free entry until 9pm. While admission is free, please email Abbey Hallberg (abbey.hallberg.10@ucl.ac.uk) if you plan on attending so we can add you to the guest list.
