Training and Support

The library offers information skills training and support to all library members:
  • Individual or group training on searching resources, whether to support clinical decision making, evidence-based practice or your own study or research. Resources include:
    • KA24 databases: Medline, Embase, Cinahl, British Nursing Index (BNI), PsycINFO, AMED, King's Fund, DH-DATA
    • PubMed
    • NLH Eyes and Vision Specialist Library
    • Evidence-based resources such as The Cochrane Library, Clinical Evidence and the National Library for Health (NLH)

  • Personal help with developing your search to make it as efficient and effective as possible.

Interlibrary Loans

Photocopies and loans of items that the Library is unable to supply can be obtained on interlibrary loan. A form must be completed for each requested item and a charge is made for this service.

Members of the Institute of Ophthalmology can nominate a departmental grant code to which the cost is to be charged. Moorfields Eye Hospital staff can pay by cash or cheque in the Library.

Photocopying

There are two photocopiers located within the Library. Moorfields Eye Hospital staff are entitled to free photocopying; a security code can be obtained from the Library desk on production of a valid Moorfields ID card. Institute of Ophthalmology staff and students and visitors to the library may purchase a photocopy card for use of the Institute photocopier.


IT Facilities

There are eight PCs available for members use in the library connected to the UCL network. Moorfields Eye Hospital staff may be logged in by library staff. Printing is available from all computers.

There is a scanner attached to one of these computers for members' use.


Patient Information

There is information for patients on eye conditions available on the Moorfields Eye Hospital website.

Moorfields Direct, a nurse-led Telephone Helpline is also available between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday to assist you with queries about your eyes.
