New Taught Masters Courses
The Institute of Ophthalmology is launching two brand new Masters degree programmes to commence in August and September 2009.

MSc Biology of Vision: A full-time one year programme, this will be suitable for students with either a science, biomedical or medical degree who wish to enhance their knowledge and expertise in basic ocular cell biology, genetics, visual neuroscience and immunology, and to specialise in the eye as an integrated biological system. The programme will be excellent preparation for those wishing to embark on a career in vision research.

MSc Clinical Ophthalmology: Part-time only over two years or flexibly over three to five years. This programme will be suitable for doctors in ophthalmic training posts, Ophthalmologists in Trust grade positions and qualified and experienced Optometrists and Orthoptists. Topics will include basic ophthalmology, ocular diseases and disorders, surgery of the eye and retinal function and imaging.

Both programmes will draw upon the extensive basic and clinical research experience available at the Institute and at Moorfield’s Eye Hospital.

MPhil/PhD Programme:

The Institute of Ophthalmology is a vibrant and stimulating learning environment in which to carry out postgraduate research. Postgraduate students are supervised by internationally renowned experts in their field with access to state-of-the-art laboratories. In addition, our close contacts with clinicians in Moorfield’s Eye Hospital allows for rapid translation of basic research to address clinically relevant eye diseases and disorders.

Postgraduate students at the Institute are fully integrated into university life at UCL and will benefit, academically and personally, from the services and facilities of the university’s Graduate School, plus accessing social and sporting facilities through the UCL Union.

Intensive 4 Day Revision Course in Basic Sciences for FRCOphth Part 1 and ICO exams

7th - 10th September 2009

This 4-day intensive revision course covers the major topics examined for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists’ FRCOphth Part I Fellowship and International Council of Ophthalmology’s Basic Science assessments. The course also includes theoretical optics & refraction, plus advice on exam techniques, taught by experts in the field (UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, Moorfields Eye Hospital & other departments).
