Development
There are many developmental disorders of the eye and scientists at the Institute are studying development of the eye and the visual pathways. There is also a major interest in the genetics of developmental disorders. These studies not only provide direct insights into congenital abnormalities of the eye as seen in albinism, but also help us understand how the adult eye functions and how adult tissue may have to be modified to allow regeneration of diseased elements. In attempting to regenerate key components of the eye, our large stem cell programme also embraces principles of developmental biology.
