Visiting academic staff, short-term workers and those engaging in collaborative research are generally allowed to borrow library materials, but at the discretion of the librarian.

Members of the public are welcome to visit the Library: the cost for a day pass is £6. The Library has reciprocal arrangements with some other institutions and hospital trusts to allow staff and postgraduates reference access. Please contact the Library for further details.

Loans and Renewals

Six books may be borrowed at any one time for a period of three weeks. Journals may be borrowed for overnight loan, but current issues and journals published before 1950 may not be taken out of the library. A valid library ticket must be shown when borrowing items.

To renew books via the library catalogue (eUCLid) you will need your library membership number, (found underneath the barcode on your ID card) and your PIN number, which is available from the Library Issue Desk.

Access to Other Libraries

Members of the library are entitled to use libraries affiliated to UCL on production of a valid ID card, and may borrow items from most UCL Library Services sites. Items held in UCL Libraries can be identified via the UCL library catalogue (eUCLid).

Nurses from Moorfields Eye Hospital may use Bloomsbury Healthcare Library in Gower Street, which has a collection with strengths in nursing, for reference purposes. Nurses who are members of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) may use the RCN library.
