The MSc Biology of Vision is a new programme aimed at students who wish to extend their knowledge and expertise in molecular and developmental cell biology, complex genetics, immunology and behavioural neuroscience, and who would like to specialise in the biology of the eye as an integrated biological system; the range and combination of programme modules offered will provide a unique and integrated review of the physiology and biology of the eye.
A substantial laboratory based research or informatics project will represent a major part of the Master's programme. This individual research project is a chance for students to undertake an original piece of research in a field of interest under the supervision of a principal investigator. Students will therefore form an integral part of an active research environment for a six month period, attending and contributing to all laboratory and departmental activities.
At the completion of the course, students will have an enhanced knowledge and understanding of scientific communicaiton skills, scientific design and analysis, sophisticated laboratory techniques and valuable experience of working within a functioning research environment.
The course will provide excellent preparation for a PhD programme or a successful research career in either academia or industry.
