Spina Bifida

Medline NLM definition: developmental abnormalities of the dorsal median region in the embryo, involving ectoderm, mesoderm, and neuroectoderm in varying degrees. Dysraphism signifies incomplete fusion or malformation of a seam or junction. Spinal dysraphism includes all forms of spina bifida. The open form is called SPINA BIFIDA CYSTICA and the closed form is SPINA BIFIDA OCCULTA.

Shine, the spina bifida and hydrocephalus charity, provides help and support to improve the lives of people living with spina bifida and hydrocephalus, offering details about local support groups and organisations.

Scottish Spina Bifida Association
The SSBA seeks to increase public awareness and understanding of individuals with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus and allied conditions. It aims to support all those affected to identify their needs and to empower them to make informed choices and decisions.

Brain and Spine Foundation
