Medical images & film

  • anatomy tv (Primal Pictures) - interactive 3D human anatomy. Rotate, peel away layers and export images.
  • Biomed Central Biology Image Library - browse & search thumbnails; register for free to view movies, full size images and create slidesets.
  • Cranial nerves - from Yale University School of Medicine. Detailed information including anatomical diagrams on the twelve cranial nerves (olfactory, optic, oculomotor, trochlear, trigeminal, abducens, facial, vestibulocochlear, glossopharyngeal, vagus, accessory and hypoglossal).
  • flickr - photo/image-sharing site with many images freely available for re-use through Creative Commons arrangements.
  • HONmedia - a repository of medical images and videos covering 1,700 topics and themes.
  • NHS Photo Library - a resource for the NHS providing photography for use in communication materials.
  • University of Iowa Digital Library - includes Charles Bell's classic images of trepanning.
  • US NLM Images from the History of Medicine. searchable collection of over 65,000 images.
  • Visible Body (Argosy) - "the most comprehensive human anatomy visualization tool available" 3D models of over 1,700 anatomical structures, including all major organs and systems of the human body. Compatible with Internet Explorer.
  • Wellcome Collection YouTube Channel (UK) - videos relating to medical history from the Wellcome Collection.

Patient information & charities

Our two local charities are: the Brain Research Trust (supporting the ION) and the national brain appeal (supporting the NHNN). Also see our list of patient support sites for neurological conditions. Other charities relevant to Queen Square include:

  • Association of Medical Research Charities - provides general information about member charities and routes to further related information.
  • Brain Research Trust - supports University College London's (UCL) Institute of Neurology, Queen Square by funding peer-reviewed research and PhD studentship programmes.
  • Macmillan Cancer Support - aims to help people live with cancer by providing information, emotional support and counselling. It is recognised as the foremost provider of cancer information in the United Kingdom.
  • Glaxo Neurological Centre - a unique non-medical advice and information centre for people with neurological illnesses and those care for them.
  • Healthfinder - a gateway consumer health information web site from the United States government.
  • ideaLIST (USA) - directory of non-profit resources on the Internet
  • National Brain Appeal - formerly the National Hospital Development Foundation (NHDF)- is the charity dedicated to raising funds for The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery which, together with the Institute of Neurology, is a worldwide leader in the research and treatment of brain disorders.
