New display in Queen Square Library

Charles Edouard Brown Séquard (1817-1894)

The display in Queen Square Library, to commemorate the 160th Anniversary of Brown Sequard’s retirement from the National Hospital, features photographs, objects, and documents from Queen Square Archives, including Brown-Sequard memorabilia on indefinite loan from The National Brain Appeal and images from Royal College of Physicians.

2023 marks the 160th anniversary of the birth of James Samuel Risien Russell and the 100th anniversary of the start of Macdonald Critchley’s career at the National Hospital where he began as a House Physician under Risien Russell. The display featuring photographs, objects, and documents from Queen Square Archives.

The evolution of epilepsy theory and practice at the National Hospital: The complementary approaches of Sir William Gowers and John Hughlings Jackson.

The display celebrates the 150th anniversary of Gowers’ appointment as Assistant Physician at the National Hospital and will run in Queen Square Library until February 2023. Please note that only UCL library members are able to visit the display in person due to restrictions.

 


Shell Shock beyond the War – A European perspective: 25th April 2022

An opportunity for academic staff, clinical staff and students to discuss the psychological consequences of war, a fascinating and multidisciplinary topic with huge relevance for historical and contemporary debates. Takes a European perspective on the paradigmatic example of combat stress of World War I, shell shock, and discuss the enduring relevance of psychological war trauma.


International Women and Girls in Science Day and International Women’s Day 2022

Display in Queen Square Library: November 2019

Queen Square: Clinical specialties at the National Hospital: beyond neurology and neurosurgery

Drawing on Chapter 10 of Queen Square: A History of the National Hospital and its Institute of Neurology – this display covers psychiatry, neuro-ophthalmology, neuro-otology and neuro-anaesthetics in Queen Square. The display is launched to coincide with the national Explore Your Archives campaign. The display includes photographs, objects and documents from the Queen Square Library and Archives and will run in Queen Square Library, 23 Queen Square until February 2020. Display in the library: Encephalitis Lethargica: centennial lessons from the epidemic

Launched to coincide with 25th anniversary of the Encephalitis Society in June 2019 the exhibition includes photographs, objects and documents from the Queen Square Library and Archives and will run in Queen Square Library, 23 Queen Square until October 2019.
