Document Delivery
Who can use this service?
The Document Delivery and Interlibrary Loans service is offered to library users who require items not held by this library. This service is available to registered library users based in Queen Square and Wakefield Street: Institute of Neurology staff and students, National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery staff, and UCL staff based in Queen Square.
What is available through Document Delivery and Interlibrary Loans?
Most of the requests that we receive are for photocopies of journal articles, and book loans. However, we can also borrow whole issues of journals that are over 6 months old from the British Library.
How do I make a request?
Request forms can be completed in the Library. Please give as much detail as you can as this will help us to provide your request more quickly. Payment is usually taken when the item is collected from the library, but pre-paid forms can be bought in bulk (a minimum of 10) and then posted to us in the internal mail. Please see our charges page for more information on prices.
When will it arrive?
We aim to supply requests within one week, but cannot guarantee to do so. We have arrangements with many libraries to ensure that we have access to a wide range of books and journals, and supply times may vary depending on their work load. If we have not heard from the supplying library within 2 weeks, we will contact them about the request. Sometimes the item requested may already be on loan to another library, in which case we will be put on a waiting list. We will inform you if you will have to wait, and will give you the option of cancelling your request.
How much will it cost?
See our
library
charges page for pricing information.
Locating the information yourself
If you would like to check whether the book or journal you need is available at another local Library, and then go to borrow it or photocopy it yourself, you can link to other libraries' catalogues via our other libraries page. It is also worth checking our e-journals page, particularly if you are looking for a recent journal article.
Information for external libraries making an inter-library loan request
Please contact us at neurolibrary@ucl.ac.uk with your request, including your BL account number.
