Training & Research Opportunities

Research Opportunities

We provide research opportunities in the laboratory for postdoctoral or predoctoral applicants, and informal enquiries concerning such positions can be made by contacting the Head of the Division directly at the address on the Division Members page.

Training Positions

We provide training placement on the Specialist Registrar Training Programme in Histopathology and Neuropathology at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. This training placement will lead to the award of a CCST. A National/Visiting Training Number (NTN/VTN) is available.

Interested applicants will find unique opportunities to develop a specialist interest in the challenging field of Neuropathology within a centre of excellence. The first 1-2 years will offer training in general Histopathology and Neuropathology. After MRCPath part 1 extensive further specialist training in Neuropathology will be provided.

Applications from existing Histopathology trainees who wish to train in Neuropathology are also welcome.

All candidates should be eligible for registration with the GMC. Twelve months SHO training in Histopathology is essential for entry to the programme or equivalent qualifications (confirmation from the Royal College of Pathologists required).

Rotation in Neuropathology

Specialist Registrars in Histopathology are very welcome to rotate into the Division of Neuropathology. We offer a wide range and a substantial number of Surgical Neuropathology cases, as well as Neurodegeneration, Epilepsy, Muscle and Nerve pathology.

We strongly recommend 4 or more weeks placements. Please contact the Neuropathology Office at least three months in advance.

We are grateful for your feedback after the visit. Please download the feedback form and return to Professor Brandner.
