UCL Centre for Inclusive Education holds inaugural fellows' evening on special education needs

Despite the best efforts of the 'beast from the east' over 30 intrepid souls braved the weather to attend the evening which involved a discussion of the challenges and benefits of encouraging teachers and schools in engaging with and producing research, supported by universities.

Short topical presentations were given by Dr Roberts, Professor Klaus Weddell CBE, Emeritus Professor of Educational Psychology and Special Educational Needs, and Dr Rona Tutt OBE, past president of the National Association of Head Teachers. Guests were asked to discuss core questions about the challenges and benefits of Knowledge Exchange. Guest perspectives were collated.

Presentations from the event were recorded and will be made available. CIE plan to produce a proceedings paper from the event, summarising the keynote presentations and the recorded notes from the discussions. Thanks to the generous donation of time and expertise from the Fellows, CIE plans to build future annual Fellows' events and proceedings papers into a series of 'State of the Nation' events to chart the journey of inclusion in the UK.

CIE has developed innovative models of knowledge exchange which form the heart of three programmes: Maximising the Impact of Teaching Assistants (MITA), Promoting the Achievement of Looked After Children (PALAC), and Supporting Spoken Language in the Classroom (SSLiC).
