Join the Centre for Understanding Social Pedagogy (CUSP) at the Thomas Coram Research Unit (TCRU) as it launches the
Social Pedagogy Professional Association (SPPA), the
first professional membership organisation for social pedagogy in the UK.
Professor Becky Francis, Director of the UCL Institute of
Education (IOE) will interview Lemn Sissay MBE, British poet and actor. They
will discuss the power of education in the face of social injustice.
The launch, which will be chaired by SPPA’s Founding Trustees, will also assess the impact of social pedagogy in children’s services to date and discuss its future.
Over 2000 UK children’s services practitioners have had training in social pedagogy, a broadly educational approach to social problems. Now, in SPPA, they and others joining them will have a professional home for continuing practice development, all to improve the quality of services for disadvantaged children, young people and families. Developed by CUSP with partners ThemPra and Jacaranda, SPPA aims to raise the profile of social pedagogy in the UK.
The event is free to attend but is operating on a ‘first come, first served’ policy to ensure representation from various backgrounds, sectors and fields of work.
The venue has
limited seating but the event will be live streamed from 6pm to a connecting room, SPPA’s
social pedagogy channel, and on YouTube.
