Dr Sohier Elneil new Chair of Fistula Committee at ICS
14 June 2013
to Dr Sohier Elneil, Consultant Urogynaecologist at UCLH and honorary Senior
Lecturer at the IfWH who has been elected as a Chair of the Fistula Committee
at The International Continence Society (ICS).
In the last few years the ICS has taken more of an interest in continence disorders in the developing world, and formed the Fistula Committee as a focus group to help manage this debilitating condition in the developing world, caused primarily by obstetric trauma. Dr Sohier Elneil first worked in the developing world in the 1990’s and has been a fistula surgeon for almost 20 years. Her work in the field is globally recognised and she is the author and editor of the FIGO and Partners Global Competency-based Fistula Training manual, produced in June 2011. She has been a member of the ICS Fistula Committee since its inception and she presented her work at the Continence Promotion Committee Workshop in 2011, as part of the annual meeting of ICS held in Glasgow (see picture below).
The position has been historically held by urologists and this is the first time that a gynaecologist has been elected to this position. For more information about ICS please follow the link http://www.ics.org/.
