Duties and Responsibilities
The UCL Department of Information Studies (DIS) has a strong international reputation for research and was very highly rated in the 2008 research assessment exercise. DIS offers postgraduate qualifications and training for the information professions (including library and information management and archives and records management), publishing and digital humanities, and collaborates in the delivery of an inter-faculty BSc in Information Management for Business.
We are now seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Archives & Records Management to a full-time post from 1 October 2012. The main purposes of this post are research, teaching and public engagement in archives and records management. The successful candidate will also be expected to supervise doctoral students and undertake individual and collaborative research, teach at Master’s level, and undertake some public engagement and related administrative duties.
Key Requirements
The post holder will be able to demonstrate knowledge and expertise of the management of records and archives in hybrid and digital environments. S/he will have the ability to conduct high quality research, including high quality publications appropriate to their career stage. Applicants must hold a PhD in archives and records management or other relevant discipline, and be able to demonstrate an ability and commitment to collaborative, interdisciplinary work. They must also have prior experience of delivering professional education and training in archives and records management.

Senior Lecturer in Publishing

Duties and Responsibilities
The UCL Department of Information Studies (DIS) has a strong international reputation for research and was very highly rated in the 2008 research assessment exercise. It is home to the UCL Centre for Publishing (CfP) which teaches the award-winning MA in Publishing and produces world-class research on publishing. Staff manage funded research projects in a variety of areas relevant to the global publishing industry in its contemporary and historical form and supervise PhD students in these and cognate areas. It is also home to the newly-founded UCL Centre for Digital Humanities. DIS offers postgraduate qualifications and training for the information professions (including library and information management and archives and records management), publishing and digital humanities, and collaborates in the delivery of an inter-faculty BSc in Information Management for Business. The CfP has productive research and teaching links with the School of Advanced Studies in the University of London and the Université de Paris XIII, with which it maintains a highly successful student and faculty exchange.
We are seeking an innovative individual to join the team in a full-time senior lectureship from 1 August 2012. The post-holder will have established a strong research profile, including high-quality publications and ideally funded research projects, appropriate to their career stage. The research focus of the post will be on one or more of the following areas or closely related disciplines: copyright and intellectual property; digital issues in publishing; publishing and book history; journals and magazines; sales and marketing; scholarly communication and interdisciplinary applications of these areas to other research activities within the department. The successful candidate will also be expected to supervise research students, teach at Master’s and undergraduate level, and undertake some public engagement and related administrative duties. It is expected that in due course the successful candidate will take over the Directorship of the CfP and the Course Directorship of the MA in Publishing from the present incumbent, Professor Iain Stevenson, and will be expected to work closely with him to facilitate this process.
Key Requirements
Applicants must hold a PhD in a relevant subject, and be able to demonstrate an ability and commitment to conduct high quality research with a view to producing high quality publications, and an enthusiasm for collaborative, interdisciplinary work. They must also have significant prior experience of teaching at university level and it will be desirable if they can offer previous experience in setting up and managing a postgraduate programme.
