#IEHCtalks: Film Screening and Panel Discussion of I, Daniel Blake

The Institute held its latest film screening event on Wednesday 7 June.

Staff and students were invited to watch I, Daniel Blake, Ken Loach's dynamic portrayal of the hard-hitting realities faced by many citizens in the UK today. The theme of social inequalities is explored in the film, which, in the words of The Guardian, lays bare the cruel realities for those who fall through the cracks of society. The film certainly provided timely content on the eve of the General Election! 

In a new addition to the Institute Film Screenings, the film was followed by a recorded panel discussion chaired by Dr Anne McMunn and including Professor Hayward, Emeritus Professor Graham Scambler and Dr Nicola Shelton. Professor Sir Michael Marmot also attended the evening, and gave his views on 'what research can do for Daniel Blake' to the audience. Once the recording of the panel discussion has been released, it will be uploaded to this website, enabling those who couldn't join us to still benefit from the discussion.
