Introduction to Stata
Oct 09, 2017 10:00 AM
End: Oct 09, 2017 04:30 PM
9th Oct, 2017: This one-day course offers an introduction to the uses and functions of the statistical software Stata including data entry and manipulation, do-files, and the basics of analyses and graphs. The course is ideally suited to those with little/no experience with Stata, but basic knowledge of statistics is advantageous.
This is a practical workshop that will introduce delegates to Stata and its uses for statistical analysis. The course is suitable for individuals who are new to Stata, or who feel they would benefit from a refresher course (from a basic level). No prior knowledge of Stata is assumed; however, knowledge of basic statistics (e.g., p-values, significance tests) is advantageous. This course will cover the following topics:
- Getting started with the Stata interface
- Data entry/loading (including do files and log files)
- Data manipulation
- Descriptive Statistics
- Parametric tests
- Non-parametric tests
Please note: this is not a statistical theory course, it is intended to teach delegates about the Stata software. As such, dedicated time cannot be given to describing and explaining theory and statistical tests (these are taught on our 5 day course – Introduction to research methods and statistics).
The course will take place in a cluster room, with access to a computer and Stata. Delegates are welcome to bring their own laptops if preferred (access to the UCL Guest network will also be provided), but everyone wishing to bring their own computer should ensure Stata is installed before attending (installation guidelines will be made available two weeks before the course).
All CASC courses take place in central London, in or close to the Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health. Specific details of the course venue will be supplied after registration.
The course will run for the first time on 9th October 2017. On this date only. we offer a 50% discount on our usual fees, which are:
