End: May 17, 2018 04:30 PM
17th May, 2018: This course introduces a number of topics for R for those already familiar with the basics of the programming language.
The course is aimed at those who can already use the software to carry out a simple statistical analysis of their data. The course is designed to follow on from the Introduction to R course also run frequently by our team. However, it is also recommended for those who have learned the basics of R elsewhere. We assume attendees have both a basic knowledge of R programming and statistics (e.g. mean, median, confidence intervals).
The following topics are covered on the day:
- An introduction to the Rstudio software
- Organising and merging multiple datasets
- Conditional (TRUE of FALSE) statements
- Conditional commands (if, if else, etc.)
- Creating your own function
Delegates are welcome to bring their own laptops and access to the UCL Guest network will also be provided. Everyone wishing to bring their own computer should ensure R and Rstudio is installed before attending (installation guidelines will be made available two weeks before the course).
All CASC courses take place in central London, in or close to the Institute of Child Health. Specific details of the course venue will be supplied after registration.

“Very enjoyable course. Well taught and supported with good materials and organisation.” “The course was well-organized and the material that was given to us was very good: every single topic in the course is explained in detail. It is really useful.” “The way the course was set up was good as you got a taster of many tools used in R and the best/only way you will really learn is to use it.” “A very useful and well presented course; many thanks to the organisers!” “Excellent course, delivered in an excellent way!” "Very well planned course covering a range of useful topics in R" "This course was excellent. The tutors were very informative and approachable for help. It was also reassuring to hear that R will take practice and making/correcting mistakes in order to learn - somehow this makes it less daunting! Also the acknowledgement that there are millions of functions/ways of doing things so the day was not about overwhelming us with too many different functions was appreciated. The live streaming code was also a great idea."
