Introduction to Research Methods and Statistics

5-9th June, 2017: This five-day course offers a comprehensive introduction to the fundamental aspects of research methods and statistics. From study design, data types, and graphs, through to choice and interpretation of statistical tests, with particular focus on standard errors, confidence intervals and p-values.
This is a basic introductory course in research methodology and statistical analyses that covers a comprehensive range of topics for individuals who are new to quantitative research. This is a theory-led course, but delegates are given plenty of opportunities to apply the concepts via practical and interactive activities integrated throughout the course. During the 5 days of the course, the following topics are covered:
- Introduction to quantitative research
- Research question development
- Study design, sampling and confounding
- Types of data
- Graphical displays of data and results
- Summarising numeric and categorical data
- Numeric and categorical differences between groups
- Hypothesis testing
- Confidence intervals and p-values
- Parametric statistical tests
- Non-Parametric tests
- Reliability and Validity
All CASC courses take place in central London, in or close to the Institute of Child Health. Specific details of the course venue will be supplied after registration.

Prices include printed course materials, refreshments (and lunch for non-ICH participants 12.45pm - 1.45pm).
Please note that no refunds will be given for cancellations made within five working days of the course start date or for non-attendance, and for individuals attending the course on a funded place, a fee will be charged for late cancellation/non-attendance according to the same time frame. This fee is needed to cover printing, catering, etc. costs that are ordered no later than 5 days before the course and are based on the number of people registered at that point in time.
