Medical Multimedia Training

Our aim is to produce high-quality multimedia learning resources for a global audience, with a particular emphasis on using multimedia to reach health workers in resource-poor countries.  Our approach has involved bringing our group's expertise in multimedia resource development together with expert subject authors, alongside technical and artistic expertise.

In the next few months, we will be finishing work on a series of multimedia tutorials in Ophthalmology, aimed at mid-level eye health workers, doctors and medical students in sub-Saharan Africa.  This contains six hours of material, based on a library of around 200 clinical cases filmed (with informed consent) in Uganda and Tanzania.  Later in the year, this will be followed by an abbreviated set of tutorials on eye care for primary health care workers.

Alongside this project, we are working on an internet based learning resource in ENT for medical students in the UK and have recently finished a series of videos on ENT examination technique.  Our next aim is to evaluate these materials and apply the lessons learnt to developing and evaluating a multimedia learning resource in neonatal and infant health.
