Vitamin D and mental health: Insights from observational and genetic epidemiology

Summary: The proposed PhD project will evaluate the causal role of vitamin D on mental health using methods of genetic epidemiology. It will build on the extensive information available from the 1958 British birth cohort.

Before commencement of my PhD, I completed my MSc Global Health in Trinity College Dublin, Ireland.  For my dissertation, I travelled to South Africa where I examined the diet diversity of Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVCs) in selected townships.  I obtained my BSc in Nutritional Science from University College Cork.  My final project was entitled ‘Effects of vitamin D and Probiotic Supplementation on Vitamin D status of the Irish Adult Population’.
