Data management
Research datasets are valuable assets that must be managed carefully at all times.
With MRC funding, we have invested considerable resources into
developing a system that allows our research staff to work securely with
data, preserving the confidentiality of personal and often sensitive
data whilst promoting best practice in data collection, processing and
archival. This is known as the research data life cycle.
Secure computing service
In 2010 our dedicated information laboratory, epiLab, went live. This system has been designed to provide a secure data processing environment with the flexibility to establish highly secure ‘data enclaves’. epiLab is a valuable asset to the centre and allows us to participate in collaborative research projects and conduct research more efficiently.

Developing ways to manage research data better
epiLab has also allowed us to investigate new ways in which data can be managed in health research in the UK. We are involved in a number or innovative data management projects to establish best practice and make new resources available to the health research community.
