Opportunities exist in the Unit for research studies leading to a
higher degree (eg MPhil, PhD and MD). These are advertised in the
scientific press and within UCL.
The Unit also develops training programmes for paediatricians interested in pursuing a career in Academic Infectious Diseases and Microbiology.

Clinical Fellow PhD programme

The
UCL Institute of Child Health in partnership with the Cromwell Hospital has
launched an exciting new Clinical PhD Programme to recruit six high calibre Academic
Paediatricians who wish to study for a PhD whilst maintaining their clinical
skills. All
posts will start on 1st September 2013.
Each will receive a salary at UCL Grade StR, 3 / CL7, 3 (this is roughly equivalent to a 2nd year SpR), some research consumables and PhD tuition fees for a period of 3 years.
Fees are paid at the UK/EU rate. The paediatricians should be at SpR level and
will work clinically as Clinical Fellow at the Cromwell
Hospital on average 1.5 days per week.
Applicants will be shortlisted on the basis of both their clinical skills and academic potential. Following interview, successful candidates will be given further details of each project and will have the opportunity to discuss with the Principal Investigators before selecting their PhD project.
