The London School of Hygiene and
Tropical Medicine, University College London and The Lancet invite abstract submissions for oral or poster
presentations at Public Health Science: a
national conference dedicated to new research in public health to be held
on November 29, 2013, at the UCL Institute
of Child Health, London.
Abstracts should be submitted no later than July 5, 2013 (see Abstracts tab below for full details)
The peer-review process will be organised by The Lancet. Accepted abstracts will be published in a booklet and on The Lancet‘s
website.

The core of the event will comprise submitted papers, interspersed by keynote presentations from leaders in public health. The peer-reviewed abstracts will be published by The Lancet, online and in print. Work completed outside the UK may be submitted, but only abstracts relevant to UK public health science will be accepted. Abstracts can be submitted under any of the following three themes:
- Creativity and innovation in public health science
- New methodological approaches to public health science
- Implementing public health science in policy and practice
A broad range of topics related to UK public health science will be covered during the conference. The following list is not exhaustive as all ideas and topics would be welcome, however, examples of work falling under the three conference themes include:
- Novel public health interventions
- Interventional and observational studies providing new insights into public health
- Advances in the aetiological understanding of disease
- Development of new analytical techniques
- Advances in data management
- Evaluation of public health interventions
- Development of practical public health tools
- Case studies of complex public health implementation
- Evaluations of public health policy implementation
Guidelines for abstract submission

- Maximum 500 words in length written in English
- No references, tables, or figures
Abstracts should include the following:
- Title
- Name and affiliations of the authors, and email for corresponding author
- Background, including context and aim
- Methods
- Findings
- Interpretations
Please indicate whether the abstract is being submitted for consideration as:
- An oral presentation
- A poster
- Either an oral presentation or a poster

Abstract submission
Please submit your abstract attached as a Microsoft Word document to The Lancet at http://ees.elsevier.com/thelancet no later than 17.00 GMT on July 5, 2013. Participants will be informed of the acceptance of abstracts for oral or poster presentation by Sept 15, 2013.

Aim and purpose of event:
We are pleased to announce Public Health Science: A National Conference Dedicated to New Research in UK Public Health. The core of the event will comprise of oral and poster presentations of selected research. This multidisciplinary conference will build upon the outstanding creativity that was seen at the first meeting in November 2012 (abstracts from the 2012 event are available online here) and aims to showcase exceptional talent in the UK public health research community. The conference will present work spanning all aspects of public health and using a full range of methodological approaches.
