Professor Izzat Darwazeh

Director at UCL Institute of Communications and Connected Systems

Co-hosting the event Professor Darwazeh is the director of UCL's Institute of Communications and Connected Systems, he also currently holds the University of London Chair of Communications Engineering and leads the Information and Communication Engineering research group of the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering. 

Over his extensive career, Izzat has authored or coauthored more than 250 book chapters and papers in the areas of optical and wireless communications and monolithic microwave integrated circuits and high-speed/frequency circuits.

Professor Darwazeh acts as a consultant/advisor to various academic and industrial organisations and to commercial, governmental and legal bodies in the UK and overseas.

Professor John Morton

Director at UCL Quantum Science and Technology Institute

Co-hosting the event Professor Morton is Director of the UCL Quantum Science and Technology Institute, holding a professorship in Nanoelectronic and Nanophotonics at UCL.

Based in the London Centre For Nanotechnology and the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, his research focuses on the control of fundamental physics phenomena exhibited in materials with a focus on quantum technologies. 

 The material systems John studies include donors in silicon as well as custom-designed molecules which exhibit particular spin interactions.

Iain Monteath

Head of The Cyber Assessment Lab at British Telecom (BT)

 Iain heads the Cyber Assesment Lab within the CTO team with a remit to conducts detailed reviews of vendor capability, enabling the business to select the best capability for our corporate sales portfolio and internal use.

Iain is also a Security Innovation Consultant within the CTO office, and a Technology Innovation scout. He explores start-up innovations with a focus on Israeli Hi-tech environment along with the UK and Europe, bringing start-up technology into BT's showcase environments.

Professor Alexandra Olaya-Castro

Professor of Physics at UCL Physics

With the rise of biologically inspired technology Professor Olaya-Castro will help us understand how the quantum world exists within biological systems.

Professor Olaya-Castro’s work falls within the emergent field of Quantum Biology and aims to understand and exploit quantum phenomena taking place at the biomolecular, nanometre scale, under conditions of physiological relevance.

Professor Olaya-Castro will speak on quantum biophotonics including photosynthesis and bring her insight to the panel discussion.

Professor Tim Spiller

Director at UK Quantum Communications Hub

Director of the UK Quantum Communications Hub Professor Spiller is based in York holding a professorship in Quantum Information Technologies. 

Tim has held research positions in both academic and industrial institutions including the University of Sussex, Hewlett-Packard Laboratories, University of Leeds and since 2014 the University of York.

Professor Lajos Hanzo

Professor of Wireless Telecommunications at University of Southampton

During Professor Hanzo's 42-year career in telecommunications, he has held research and academic posts in Hungary, Germany and the UK.

Since 1986 he has been based at the School of Electronics and Computer Science, University of Southampton, where he currently holds the Chair in Telecommunications and is head of the Communications Research Area. He is also a former Chaired Professor at Tsinghua University, Beijing, China.
