Timna Park, the Dead Sea & Arava Science Center, Tel Aviv University, and IAMS would like to invite colleagues to attend an international conference in memoriam of Prof. Beno Rothenberg to be held at Timna, Israel.
We wish to honour the memory of IAMS founder Prof. Beno Rothenberg and his lifetime contributions to archaeometallurgy by hosting a conference highlighting recent developments in the discipline he helped to create. The conference is to be held in Timna, where he focused much of his research, and is entitled Mining for Copper: Environment, Culture and Copper in Antiquity. The conference aim is to cover a multidisciplinary approach to copper-related geology, mining, production, and cultural background in antiquity. As such, we invite scholars from all related disciplines to present papers in their respective fields such as the geology and environmental sciences as well as archaeology and archaeometallurgy.
The conference will consist of a series academic sessions on copper metallurgy and guided tours to both Timna and Feinan in Jordan.
While we hope to stay true to Prof. Rothenberg's various interests and include research on copper metallurgy from around the Old and New worlds, we also wish to offer an opportunity for all scholars of Southen Levantine archaeometallurgy to meet and interact regardless of modern political boundaries.
For more information please refer to the conference pdf or email the organizers.
