The annual 'research-in-progress meeting' of the Historical Metallurgy Society is an excellent opportunity for people from various backgrounds to meet and discuss their research in an open and friendly environment. This year's 'RIP' will be held at the University of Exeter.

The aim of these meetings is to offer a chance for contributors from any field related to metallurgy, from economists, archaeologists, historians, or professional metallurgists, to present their ongoing research to a smaller audience. The session is usually attended by a mixture of early career researchers as well as more established academics and professionals. It offers a unique opportunity for more relaxed and open discussions about individual research projects.

A prize is typically awarded for the best student presentation (or recent graduate within 12 months of graduation) as chosen by those members of HMS Council present.

Proposals for 10-15 minute oral papers are welcomed from anyone undertaking work in any area of ancient, historical, or industrial metallurgy, and from other researchers whose focus is of relevance to this subject.

General enquiries and abstracts can be directed to hms.rip2013@hotmail.com

The registration fee for the meeting is £15 for HMS members and £20 for non-members. To submit an abstract, please fill out the registration form.
