Culminating a series of events marking the 50th Anniversary of the Historical Metallurgy Society, this conference aims at synthesizing the current state of the discipline of archaeometallurgy.

The conference will include four main themes as follows:

  • Origins of metallurgy. Chaired by Paul Craddock & Thilo Rehren
  • Innovation and change. Chaired by David Bourgarit & Justine Bayley
  • Society and metalworkers. Chaired by Marcos Martinón-Torres & Vincent Serneels
  • The future of historical and archaeological metallurgy. Chaired by David Killick & David Dungworth

The call for papers and posters has gone out and the Society are looking for submissions from students, academics, archaeologists, historians, metallurgists, independent researchers, local study groups, and community archaeology programmes, covering all the various fields of archaeometallurgy.

Abstracts of up to 250 words should be sent in to Eleanore Blakelock (Studio Flat, 616 Green Lanes, London, N8 0SD, United Kingdom) by the 22nd of November 2012. Submissions should include the names and affiliations of all authors and the preferred session.

Attendance booking forms will be made available in due time on the official website of the Historical Metallurgy Society. For more details, please contact the conference organiser Eleanor Blakelock.

More information can also be obtained from the Historical Metallurgy Society's Facebook Group.
