This year's Experiemental Archaeology Conference is to be co-hosted by Cardiff University and St Fagans National History Museum, Wales, from the 11th to the 12th of January 2013.
This conference, held annually since 2006, aims to provide a forum for researchers to present and discuss the results of their current and ongoing projects which involve experimental work. While research from every aspect of archaeology will be accepted, this conference's theme will be the relationship between experimental and experiential approaches.
While archaeometallurgy will only form a small part of this conference's focus, it is a long running tradition at IAMS to include experimental reconstructions in any ongoing study of ancient metallurgical process. This tradition is exemplified by one of IAMS' greatest contributors, Dr. John Merkel, who held a series of now famous experiments in the 1980s and 1990s reconstructing the smelting furnaces of Timna. As such, we hope that IAMS and other archaeometallurgists will contribute to this next experimental archaeology conference.
Registration is now open. The conference fees are £30 for a single day and £55 for two. A registration form can be downloaded here. The price includes an abstract booklet, tea/coffee and lunch both days as well as a return coach to St Fagans from Cardiff City centre (outside the National Museum Cardiff).
