Bank Details
You will be provided information about setting up a bank account in your one to one meeting with the UCL Qatar Finance team. Finance will also provide you with a salary letter which is a requirement to open a bank account in Qatar. If you wish to change your bank account after opening it, you should contact a member of the UCL Qatar Finance team.

Details of your pay, allowances and any deductions will be itemised on your payslip. As UCL Qatar does not issue paper payslips, your payslip will be available to download from MyView. The UCL Qatar HR team will show you how to download your payslip via MyView. Payslips downloaded from MyView are denominated in GBP but can be converted to QAR at an exchange rate of 5.9 QAR to 1 GBP. All staff will be paid in Qatari Riyals into a local bank account. MyView is the UCL on-line system that allows you access to payslips, stores information regarding your personal details and professional development activities. MyView also allows you to request annual leave.

If you have any queries about your pay, you should initially contact the UCL Qatar Finance team, who will advise whether you need to contact the Payroll team in London. It is advisable to print out your payslips at least every six months.

Pay Date
Salaries are paid monthly by bank credit transfer. With the exception of December, payment is made by the last working day of each month. In your first month of employment, please contact the UCL Qatar Finance team to discuss the options available for the payment of your first monthly salary payment.

Training and Development

UCL Qatar provides comprehensive opportunities to enable all staff to continue their professional and personal development. Continuous personal development is about developing and maintaining the knowledge, skills and attitudes to do our jobs as well as possible.

Appraisal
An important part of developing employees is the annual appraisal and development plan. You should expect to talk about your work regularly with your manager or supervisor, and at least once every 12 months (on completion of your probationary period). Part of this is the agreement of objectives for future development – your personal development plan. Further information about appraisals is available here

As part of your personal development plan, your training needs, and any requests you have for training, will be discussed. However, you can arrange a time to talk to your manager at any stage about this.

Training
Developing your skills and abilities may happen in a variety of ways, and you and your manager should agree which is the most effective method for you. You may choose on-the job training, shadowing a colleague, departmental training sessions, project work, attending short courses or longer term studying for a formal qualification (you may be expected to contribute some of the cost of your fees with regard to the latter).

All UCL Qatar staff are expected to attend a minimum of three learning events per year. To facilitate this, UCL Qatar has a dedicated annual budget for staff training and development.

UCL Qatar also arranges in-house training throughout the year, which employees are encouraged to participate in.
