Foreword by the Provost
Recruiting and selecting the right people is of paramount importance to the continued success of UCL. This Recruitment and Selection Policy sets out how to ensure, as far as possible, that the best people are recruited on merit and that the recruitment process is free from bias and discrimination. A well written job description and person specification should clearly and accurately set out the duties and responsibilities of the role and be the basis of an effective recruitment process.
UCL is committed to the principles of equal pay for work of equal value. The grading system is therefore based upon the evaluation of the duties and responsibilities attached to a post, using the Higher Education Role Analysis (HERA) scheme, and not upon the personal merits of individual post-holders. The grading of posts will be undertaken by a Grading Panel consisting of trained Job Analysts.
Courses
UCL policy requires that all members of interview panels must have received training in fair recruitment. This requirement is met by attending the Recruitment and Selection HR Policy Briefing detailed below.
The other courses offered are aimed to ensure that interview panel members are well prepared to undertake this important task.
Senior staff new to UCL who urgently need to meet the qualifying requirement should contact OSD for access to a specially prepared online alternative to the main qualifying course (this will be available very soon).
