Overview:
These are exciting times for UCL. Following the publication of the White Paper last year, we continue to go from strength to strength. Research income has topped £300M for the first time, our transformative project in Stratford is moving forward, and we are making progress on the new Student Centre and other flagship projects in the Masterplan. The UCL Academy has opened to great acclaim, and the recent announcement of a collaboration between the BBC and our Faculty of Engineering Sciences is a great example of collaboration between industry and higher education, to the benefit of both. There are many other instances of success that I could cite, and we can all take pride in our association with London's Global University.
In all aspects of its work, staff in professional services, both in the central teams and in faculties and departments, make an essential contribution to the success of UCL. I believe that it is time for us to develop a vision for the way in which we can all reinforce that contribution, and make it even more effective in the future. Over recent months I have been working with colleagues on such a vision, and a set of underpinning values. We are now beginning work on the development of a strategy for professional services at UCL. As part of this process I would like to invite you to attend a Professional Services at UCL event on 13 December at which we will present the draft vision and values, and discuss the development of strategy. The provost, Professor Malcolm Grant, will introduce the sessions. In anticipation that many colleagues will wish to attend we will be running the session twice on the morning of the 13th, the first running from 9 am to 10.30 am and the second from 11.30 am to 1 pm. I will present the work we are undertaking, and there will be a panel discussion with senior colleagues, so that you can ask questions and offer comments.
