Using your UCL userid and password
When you have logged in you will be able to select from the following three icons:
Should you wish to be both a Mentor and a Mentee you can register through the online platform to do both. Please be aware that there may be some repetition of the work within the Learning Module when you go through the programme again.
To use uMentor, both Mentors and Mentees must follow a four step registration process. Each step must be completed before you move onto the next.
Step 1. Learning Package
The Learning Package is a piece of interactive online learning and should take about 45 minutes to complete. It will provide you with the knowledge and skills required to be a Mentor or Mentee at UCL. The package will guide you around the fictitious ‘Mentoring University’ allowing you to visit different parts of the campus to acquire and practice your mentoring skills.
Step 2. The Assessment
The assessment takes the form of 22 multiple choice questions. You must attempt each of the questions before moving on to the next page.
Step 3. Code of Conduct
Step 4. More Details
The final section of the registration process asks you to complete some information about yourself and your requirements for a mentor or mentee. After registration, you may edit this information at any time by selecting ‘My Profile’ from the grey bar at the top of the screen.
Once you have completed the registration process above, you will be able to search for a Mentor or display your profile to potential Mentees.
The uMentor package has a series of tools that will allow you to search through a database of potential mentors and find the best match. If you haven’t already done so, register to use uMentor following the 4 step process described above. Then from the home page, select ‘Find a Mentor’. You can then filter the available mentors by their 'Mentoring Area', 'Job Role' or 'Organisational Area'.
When a Mentee selects you as a Mentor you will be sent an invitation email from them, through the uMentor system. You then will need to log back into uMentor and view the status of Mentees from the 'Review My Mentees page. If you have more than three requests to be a mentor please use the grey dots and forward arrows to scroll through the profiles.
To view a Mentee's profile, click on the green 'Details' button beneath their profile picture.
To contact a Mentee, click on the green 'Email' button.
When you receive an invitation from a mentee the status will be set as 'Considering'. To update the Status, select a status from the drop down list.
A pop up message will appear to confirm that the status has been successfully updated. Please email the mentee to inform them of the change of status. To do this, please click on the green 'Email' button. Please note, you will need to email your new Mentee to arrange how your mentoring relationship will be taken forward.
If you do not want to receive any more Mentoring requests, please select 'My Profile' from the top grey bar. Click on the green Edit button and select 'Don't include me in search results' and then click on 'Save'.
When you have completed a Mentoring relationship, please remember to return to your 'My Profile' page and return your status to 'Yes, I am available to mentor'.
A user guide can be accessed by clicking on the 'Help me' button positioned on the grey bar at the top of each page and if you go to the help homepage you can select the table of contents of the entire uMentor help including a set of FAQ's. If you need further assistance, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and a member of the OD team will contact you.
