UCL - Statutory & Mandatory Training Requirements for Staff 2013-14

 

1. Minimum Training Requirements for Staff

UCL is committed to the continuing professional development (CPD) of all staff. In order to facilitate this, staff are entitled and expected to undertake a minimum of 3 learning events per annum. For staff with management responsibilities this should include at least one leadership or management development activity.

To assist with, and for the purpose of consistent recording and monitoring of training and development within UCL, a learning event is defined as:

A learning, training or development activity that has been completed via attendance at a workshop, course or conference or via e-learning, a coaching or mentoring session or a team ‘away day’ or half day etc. (of at least 2 hours duration). In the case of e-learning this may be a cumulative total.

2. Statutory Training Requirements for Staff

All staff must undertake annual local fire safety induction and annual staff familarisation via their departmental designated personnel, e.g. Senior Fire Marshal, designated departmental trainer or departmental safety officer. This is a statutory (legal) requirement.

3. Mandatory Training Requirements for Staff

In addition UCL has a requirement for some staff groups to undertake mandatory training for reasons of health and safety compliance, compliance with changes in legislation, to meet professional body requirements and to meet quality standards or policy.

All new staff and Graduate research students Health and Safety UCL Safety Induction It is a mandatory requirement for new staff and graduate research students, undertaking work at UCL to receive the UCL Safety Induction which is comprised of a local safety induction completed by the department followed by the online UCL Corporate Safety Induction.  It is the responsibility of the line manager to ensure that their new starters complete the UCL Safety Induction process. Section 5.5.2 of the UCL Organisation and Arrangements for Safety(pdf) describes the arrangements that the University has in place to carry out safety training. The Department
