Dr. Patrick Brindle

Dr Patrick Brindle was, until recently, Publisher for Research Methods at SAGE Publications. He has over 15 years of experience managing research methods books, journals and online products, and has worked with a wide range of authors to fine tune their manuscripts.

Patrick also managed the ‘development function’ at SAGE for many years, meaning that he had oversight over the editors that worked most closely with authors on improving the readability and flow of their mss.

Patrick is now Director of Into Content, a training company specialising in supporting researchers in all aspects of writing and publishing. He is also Visiting Lecturer at City University of London, where he leads modules on Digital Publishing, Digital Innovation and Research Methods. Patrick has a Ph.D in History from the University of Cambridge.

Bill Britten - Maynard Leigh

Bill Britten

Bill joined Maynard Leigh in 2003 and combines consultancy with his work teaching screen acting and directing at the Drama Centre, one of the UK's leading drama schools, where alumni include Colin Firth, Michael Fassbender and Tom Hardy. As a coach he specialises in presentation and interpersonal skills and leadership issues. Clients include DHL, KPMG, Chubb, UCL, Smith and Williamson, Which?, the Home Group, ED&F Man and Traport.

Bill studied Psychology at Oxford before becoming an actor, working professionally on stage and television for ten years. He then turned to writing and directing and has directed many television dramas, including Eastenders, Holby City, Night & Day, as well as television films and a BAFTA nominated short film. He also co-wrote the period feature film, The Abduction Club.

Donna's background, prior to working with Challenge, was in housing. She worked in both general needs and supported housing for over 12 years in both front line and a variety of management positions. Frieda De Ley

Frieda De LeyFrieda is a professional coach who has a genuine interest in people and rapidly establishes a relationship of trust and confidence with her clients. Her multicultural background, being a Belgian national who has lived, studied and worked across Europe and North America, has made her particularly sensitive to people’s differences and unique life experiences.

She herself has had a varied career having operated at a high management level in engineering in the private sector before converting to occupational psychology. Dr. Caron Fraser Wood

Caron is a research scientist by training, with a background in manufacturing and leading operational teams in manufacturing organisations. She now focuses largely on designing and delivering experiential training and interventions for world-class institutions and organisations across the globe. She typically works with in excess of 1500 research personnel annually, delivering practical sessions in a portfolio of training interventions which include advanced communication techniques, resilience, research project management, influencing and negotiation skills together with research management and people management skills for staff at all levels across Universities, Research Institutions and Research Councils in the UK, Europe and globally.

Carolyn Graham - Consensio

Carolyn Graham has over 25 years as a senior executive in the arts and entertainment industry, working in both the commercial and not-for-profit sectors. For 15 years, Carolyn worked at the UK’s flagship arts venue, the Southbank Centre, including 10 years as Deputy Director of Artistic Programming.

Carolyn became an accredited mediator in 2002, and has nine years experience of delivering training and workshops relating to mediation, dispute resolution and conflict management. She has extensive experience of people management, change management, organisational development programmes, union negotiation, financial management, and contractual negotiation. Andrew Harries - Vox

Andrew Harries combines coaching with a successful career as a theatre director. Macarena Mata - Consensio

Macarena has worked in the mediation and conflict resolution field since 2004. She is an accredited family, workplace, intergenerational and community mediator, with a diverse range of experience in conflict transformation and resolution and personal growth. Previously, she worked in the academic field as a research associate for eleven years until 2005, in institutions such as University of Amsterdam, Cranfield University and Imperial College (where she also was a harassment support contact liaising with HR).

Macarena is also a qualified trainer in mediation and conflict resolution and self-awareness to executives, academics and community groups, as well as a trainer in peer mediation to children in schools and in conflict resolution to young adults. Her work includes training managers at the University of Hertfordshire in conflict awareness and difficult conversations.

She has worked as a lecturer at Birkbeck College, University of London, on conflict theory and self-awareness and reflective practice for conflict practitioners at the PgCert and MSc courses. She has been a member of the Board of Trustees with Mediation Hertfordshire for three years.

Her academic qualifications include a PhD from Cranfield University and an MSc from Birkbeck College.

Dominic Rickhards
Dominic Rickhards is both a coach and a performer. As a coach, he has worked with companies such as Mars and Volvo and with universities including Leeds, Manchester and UCL. As an actor, he has played regular characters in several TV soap operas, while his theatre credits include performing with Sir Ian McKellen in Bent and with Timothy West in King Lear. Femi began training in 1980 when she was involved in management development for a large employment agency. After further developing her skills at The Observer, Femi was finally able to combine her professional experience with her personal commitment to equality for all when she joined the GLC Women's Committee Support Unit as a Community Development Officer.

After some time in local government as a training officer, Femi founded Challenge and began to offer courses directly to the public, private and voluntary sectors. Femi has been personally involved in the civil rights struggles for race, gender, sexual orientation and disability equality.
