UCL was founded in 1826, making it one of the oldest higher education institutions in the UK and the first to be established in London. We are a multi-disciplinary university with an international reputation for the quality of our research and teaching and were ranked fourth in the QS World University Rankings in October 2012.

UCL Grand Challenges - which include Global Health, Sustainable Cities, Intercultural Interaction and Human Wellbeing - is the mechanism through which concentrations of specialist expertise across UCL and beyond can be brought together to address aspects of the world's key problems.
