Relocating to the UK
Moving overseas can be both exciting and daunting.
The International Staff website, for staff moving to work in UK universities, provides guidance and information on living in the UK. It aims to help you plan your time before you travel to the UK and identifies the main things you need to consider before arrival – from finding accommodation to cost of living and paying council tax and utility bills, to setting up a bank account, applying for a national insurance number and registering with a doctor.
You may also wish to contact UCL's Accommodation_Service whose aim is to assist new UCL staff with their accommodation needs when relocating to London.
For advice on financial matters, including tax and NI requirements please go to UCL's Payroll website.
Below is a list of websites for parents and carers providing support, information and advice about your child's learning and the English education system.
- Department for Education and Skills: is responsible for education and children's services
- Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted): Ofsted is the Office for Standards in Education, Children's Services and Skills. They regulate and inspect to achieve excellence in the care of children and young people, and in education and skills for learners of all ages.
Local councils provide a range of education and training related services plus information on a wide range of childcare, services for parents and young people. Each local council will have its own policies on school term dates, admissions, transfers and pupil benefits.
UCL’s occupational health service also offers advice on a range of healthcare matters including accessing healthcare_services.
You also can find information on London’s transport system, and what’s on in London.
