Rest rooms for New and Expectant Mothers

UCL is legally required to provide somewhere for pregnant and breastfeeding employees to rest.  You can search for a route to the buildings where the rest rooms are located using UCL Route Finder.

The rooms are:

Malet Place Engineering Building; room 716

Access to the Malet Place Engineering Building, is via card operated turnstile or via the staffed Reception in adjacent Roberts Building.

1-19 Torrington Place: The Fiona McLean quiet room, located on the ground floor near main reception at 1-19 Torrington Place. Sign in at reception when you want to use the room.  Open between 09.00 and 17.00 Monday to Friday.

SSEES Building, 16 Taviton St; room 344 (Medical room) located on the third floor.

26 Bedford Way Building

Rest Room, no 409, 4th floor
Small, lockable from the inside room with electrical outlet. Key available from John Draper, Divisional Head of Administration (room 306 on the floor below). Currently, the room is dual use, doubling as a break out room for researchers. They have been informed of the need to use it as a maternity room, so it can be vacated immediately if required for its primary, maternity function.

Baby-changing facilities, 4th Floor
Available in the Disabled unisex WC’s located on the 4th floor

1-19 Torrington Place Building

Rest Room, G16, Ground floor
The Fiona McLean quiet room (G16): Comfortable, lockable from the inside room with electrical outlet, sink, freezer and a big couch on the ground floor by the main entrance. Key available from reception. You will just need to sign in. Open between 09.00 and 17.00
Monday to Friday.

Baby-changing facilities, 3rd Floor
Available in the Disabled Ladies WC located on the 3rd floor, opposite the West End lift lobby.


ICN, Alexandra House, 17 Queens Square

Rest Room, Queen Square House, 7th Floor
ICN members (anyone with a UCL card) has been granted access to the ‘Maternity Room’ of the IoN, which is located on the 7th floor (room 704) of Queen Square House. The room is lockable and has a sink, fridge, water dispenser, small table, four chairs and a long sofa.

Currently, the room is dual use (it doubles as a tea/coffee room) but the primary use is as a maternity room and it must be vacated immediately if required for its primary function. Access is via the reception in Queen Square House. You will just need to sign in and you will be given an Athena SWAN badge. Open between 09.00 and 17.00 Monday to Friday.

Malet Place Engineering Building

Rest Room, Room 716
Room 716 is the designated rest/maternity room. It is lockable from the inside, has a sink and a lounge chair. Access to the Malet Place Engineering Building, is via UCL-valid card operated turnstile or via the staffed Reception in the adjacent Roberts Building.

Baby-changing facilities
The above room doubles as a baby changing room.

Chandler House, 2 Wakefield Street

Rest Room
Not available currently.

Baby-changing facilities
Facilities are available in the disabled, unisex toilet in the ground floor (follow signs).
