Paying into a UK Bank Account

Payroll Services will pay your salary into a UK bank account or building society. We are currently unable to make electronic payments overseas so you are required to set up a UK bank account for this purpose. To facilitate this, we offer a bank introductory letter.

  • Bank Accounts The UCL payroll system can only accept bank accounts with a 6 digit sort code and an 8 digit account number. The only exceptions being Lloyds Bank which has a 7 digit account number and Girobank which has a 9 digit account number.

  • Building Society Accounts  The UCL payroll system can only accept building society accounts with a 6 digit sort code and an 8 digit account number. If you have a savings account you will need to quote a roll/ reference number as well as the 6 digit sort code and 8 digit account number. Please note that some building societies may take longer to credit your account.

If you are an Overseas Nationals, please see Opening a UK Bank Account below.

Changing your Bank Details

All employees can add or update their bank details via the Employee Self-Service on MyHR (this can be done from your first day of employment).

For instructions on how to do this, please see the training guide that can be found on MyHR user guides and online training.

If you make a request to change your bank details after the 18th of the current month, the change may not become effective until the following month’s payroll. The only exception to this is April and December where changes must be requested prior to the 10th of the month, this is due to the UCL closure periods.

If you are a casual worker or an employee with issues accessing MyHR, you can change your bank's details by completing the online form.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at hr-services@ucl.ac.uk or 0203 108 7160.
